Alexander Jefferson

Tuskegee Airman

Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Jefferson was a Tuskegee Airman and second lieutenant who flew in Europe with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was shot down on August 12, 1944, and became a prisoner of war in Stalag Luft III. His collection in the Cadet Library includes numerous drawings made while he was a prisoner. He published his wartime experiences in Red Tail Captured, Red Tail Free: Memoirs of a Tuskegee Airman and POW. The Friends helped make the Jefferson collection available online by funding digitizing of his drawings.
